Patricia The location is a clue. The Grand Union Canal runs through/under Islington on its way from St. Pancras to the Thames at Limehouse. There are several wharfs on the bits that aren't in tunnel. J

Thank you Chris and Helen. His name was James C. Humphreys. Born 1867. 1901 living at 353 Caledonian Road, Islington. with other Humphreys, not sure of the relationship as he is down as a boarder. Cannot find him on any previous census. Have had another look at his occupation and it is spelt wharfinger with an H in it.

Found on the 1901 census the occupation of Warfinger. The man was living in Islington. What could this mean please. Any ideas.
