I am having trouble finding a date of death. I've checked LDS, FreeBMD, Ancestry & can't find a thing. What am I doing wrong? I'm getting in quite a pickle & starting to think I've got the wrong George! His details are - George Neesam born c1846 in Brompton, Northallerton Married Jane Fawcett Dec 1871 I believe I have him on each census from 1851 (in 1861 he becomes George N Smith as his mother remarried but he goes back to Neesam in 1871) He is on the 1901 census aged 54 Thanks Geraldine Whose DH gave her Family Tree Maker 2006 for her birthday today :-))

You may have to trawl the next 50 years, qtr by qtr on ancestry. How far have you got, or any idea where or when he died?

LDS have very few death records, and those are mainly personal submissions, rather than copies of burial entries. Freebmd stops at about 1910. So if your chap died after 1910 (which is quite likely) you will need to trawl through the indexes, quarter by quarter every year till you find him. It might be easier to look for his spouse's death record as this will state whether she was wife or widow on her cert. Congrats on birthday and present! nell

It is quite feasible that he went on to live to 70+ years of age, until you find a match that is quite close age wise in the index you just have to keep going. My 2xg g/m provrd awkward, born 1855 i stopped looking beyond 1945,thinking she wouldn't have got beyond 90.Wrong!!She lived to be 101 years old so i had to go to 1956. Glen

Thanks everyone. I've just thought he may well have died in India. He was posted there when he joined up in the 1890's & worked for the Indian North West Railway. Many life events happened there (marriages, children etc) so I have lots more to investigate. Have to go round the remaining rellies again & see if my persistence can jog some memories I think.
