I have been trying to use the web search facility but it takes so long to search I am ending up cancelling it , that blue bar keeps filling up again and again and again and again etc etc etc, also when I do finally get some searches to work I maybe get a birth or a census for someone then I get lots of blank pages saying ancestry could find nothing .Is it me or is that quite normal.

Not that it's any help but I experience the same thing with Ancestry, permanently No Matches for people I know existed e.g. my Grandfather, unless he was an illusion.

I wonder why??? I usually have no bother but have had this happen quite often lately, they have probably updated it worse thing they could do, I have noticed when a site gets updated it is worse than before.

hiya valerie, i know this isnt going to help, but my web search is working fine, it scrolls the blue bar perhaps twice, and then comes up with the goods, i have my search criteria set at 3 stars and better, anymore and it seems to struggle with the search, perhaps this is the problem??? maybe try and do several hits on different people, and wait for results then alter to 3 stars and retry??? hth julie

Question When I run a Web Search, the magnifying glass keeps moving and the search never returns any results. Answer Cause: Settings for your current Web Search are stored in the Temp\FTW directory and in your file. If one of these settings is damaged, removing current settings may resolve Web Search problems. To remove the current Web Search settings: Restart your computer. From the Windows Start menu, choose Run. Type the following line: %temp%\FTW Click OK. A window opens that contains the contents of your FTW Temp folder. From the Edit menu, choose Select All. From the File menu, choose Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion. After you have finished deleting the temporary files, compact your file: Start Family Tree Maker. Disable your antivirus software. From the Tools menu, choose Compact File. Make sure the option to back up your file is selected, and click the Compact button. The 'Backup Family File' dialog box opens. Select a location where you would like to back up your file, and click OK. After the backup has finished, click OK. Family Tree Maker will begin compacting your file. When your file has finished compacting, try the Web Search again. If this resolves the problem, but the next time you try to use the Web Search it occurs again, please disable any Windows cleanup utilities or set the FTW subdirectory inside the Windows Temp folder as an exception. Some customers have found that these utilities can corrupt or interfere with the creation of temporary files needed to run the Web Search. Glen

Just a thought, you haven't got a custom database selected have you?ie just bmd or census (and it doesn't cover the years you want to search) Glen
