Im a bit confused with the process at the Metropolitan archives. I know they hold the parish records for London and some other areas but do you have to look through all the parishes to find the entry you want? If the family moved about abit their marriages etc would be all over the place. Can someone explain the process to me, i know there's probably a simple way of searching, i just can't see it! Thanks |

I'm afraid you will have to look in each relevant parish's records (or rather, the filmed copies). They have books with the parishes listed, and against each parish is the reference for the various films of records, so that you can find them in the cabinets. You'll need something so that you can note down the film number you might want so that you don't have to keep coming and going. Make sure you have lots of small change with you - including 5p pieces, because copies cost something odd - like 35p, and the machines don't give change. Christine |

Must need alot of time then! I read on the website about the IGI being searchable and that refers you to the relavant parish/reference? I take it they don't hold the database then? Sorry about the qs, i just want to get it right before i go! |

thanks for your help, it's a little clearer now. I did have a look on the LDS and noticed that not all the parishes have been transcibed. I'll make sure i know exactly what to look for and where by the time i go there. |

Have you looked at the LMA website? - http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/family-research/. It tells you what records they have, and you can email them with enquiries. Hope this helps. Joy |
