Hi - I'm a newbee. I think I originally posted this in the wrong place. Have worked on my Family Tree for a very long time and have finally put all my rellies, that I can verify, onto my GRU tree. Like all good trees, there has to be mystery. I am wondering if someone can get back to me if they have access to FO records. My paternal g-grandparents disappeared. They would have had Alexandria/Maltese/English connections. Those of Maltese connections had English passports with Malta stamped in the passport (I am reliably informed Maltese folk won't admit it) These passports included Maltese folk living in Alexandria, Egypt. The years in question would run from 1878/79 for my G Grandmother who was English. My G Grandfather was last heard of in Alexandria, Egypt in 1893- I particularly want to know where they both died and were buried. My G Grandmother was born in England. Is there someone out there to help? GGrandmother : Louisa Annie Philipine Diacono (nee Wiss) b.11/10/1855 Peckham County Surrey, Camberwell. m. Frederick Robert Diacono 11/10/1876 Emmanuel, Parish Camberwell, Surrey on her 21st Birthday.Reg No. 215 She had a daughter, Cora Louisa Camela on 1/1/1878 Camberwell, County of Surrey Reg No. 432 Louisa Annie was never heard of again...her daughter, Cora, my grandmother, turned up in Malta in 1882 - after that she was sent to England where she lived with her grandmother. Frederick Robert Diacono - was born c.1855 as the marriage certificates indicates they were the same age. He is a mystery. I suspect he was born in Alexandria. He was last heard of in a court case in Alexandria in 1893, together with his father Giuseppe Lorenzo Diacono (aka Joseph Laurence Diacono). The FO reference for this is FO847/21 Wills and Co and Joseph Diacono 1892 FO 847/23 Regina vs Giuseppe L. Diacono and Frederick Robert Diacono. The court case was 22/3/2893. After that - Nothing! Family oral history has it that he re-married and had three more children, David, Joseph, and Irima. I have never been able to confirm this. I have expended considerable finances to track them down but alas, my resources are of the pension variety. This is as far as i can go on my own Can anyone help Walda |

It sounds as though you need to visit the TNA(The National Archives) at Kew website. If you can visit in person better still but if not you should get enough info to decide what to do next. www.nationalarchives(.)gov.uk Once on the site look for keyword search and put in the words 'Foreign Office Records' and up will come hundreds of articles which should show you the way forward for your problem.
