thanks for all your replies. elaine I think he could be henry george hayter because I found the death of an emily hayter in 1898. oh no certificate number 73 coming up lol. jenny |

A few ideas He could have been registered mothers maiden name. The registration might not have made it to GRO. The surname could have been mistranscribed. He might not be the one in the 1901. He may only have acquired the name Lebbern when a widowed mother remarried. I'll stop muddying the water now! |

maybe janet, I found a henry george lebbern born 1875/6 who married emily hayter in 1896 but she died in 1898 so maybe that was his parents? |

Perhaps he gave the correct date but the wrong year so he could fight in WW1? |

I've just downloaded a PDFfile from the National Achives site with naval records for Henry George Lebbern in my tree born in Sholing Hampshire which has his date of birth as 23.4.1896 but there is no trace of his birth on ancestry or free BMD?, does that mean his birth wasn't registered?. thanks. jenny |
