Thanks Grampa Jim and Peter. I am learning the hard way. When I said merge I meant enter all the data again - just trying not to think the time that will take. I'm sitting now crawling through all my rellies printing off the extra details. Not too bad for me cos I only have 484. I'll need to take a break now, watch my soaps and have a cup of tea. Will pop in tomorrow again. Bye! Terry Stewart

I agree with Jim, I hardly ever update anything directly on the site, only now and again to change a glaring error. Keep your master file on your PC using something like FTP or PAF if you are on a budget. Incidentally you can't merge data onto the GR site, when you upload a new gedcom file it overwrites everything.

I suspect that you probably will. It always pays to update your offline Tree and then re-import it to GR when necessary. I would never have my main up-to-date Tree anywhere except on my Computer. Any Website could go down or even cease without warning.

I have had problems with entries on my GR tree being overwritten by incorrect relatives. Thankfully I had exported to a gedcom file (for the very first time) about two weeks ago. I had updated mY GR tree since then and will have to merge data. I am now doing this away from GR and then want to import again. One worry for me - will I lose all my extra details displayed on the GR tree?? Terry Stewart
