Hello does anyone know if there is anyway of finding out if someone was a deserter i have been told that a member in my tree deserted the war. is there a site where i can look for this? also if he deserted would he have been put in prison? many thanks Tinks.

I think the Police Gazette published lists of deserters.

Tinks, do you know his army number, if so go to National Archives and see if you can find him. as for prison during the war deserters were shot or imprisoned, which war first or second, if it was the first war a lot of records were destroyed in a fire, I think something like 60%. Good luck Rod

In that case Tinks, all that i,ve written is of no use as there records are for the first world war. Rod
