Basically pre 1857 wills were proved in various courts, based on an ecclesiastical system - these are to be found in various record offices. From 1858 wills were proved at a probate office. There is a yearly index called a calendar, - these can be viewed in most record offices and sometimes in large libraries. For a fee, you can request a search for an English will from the probate registry at York Jay |
