I have this family on 1861 cannot find them together on any others, but he Jesse Kemp is by himself on 1871 and 1891 . Was told the wife had maybe left him and moved in with someone else possible a George Tyler , and had at least 2 boys by him. Head Jesse Kemp 1828 born Tottenham, Coachman Wife Mary kemp 1834 born Midsomer Norton Somerset Daughter Emily Kemp 1857 born Regents Park St Pancras Son Alfred Kemp 1859 born Ramsgate Kent Jesse is on 1871 as a Widower in Hackney as a, Seal skin Dyer Jesse on 1891 as a Widower ,Coachman which was his trade no sign of him on 1881 No sign of the children or mother anywhere after 1861. Have found a lady by the name of Mary born Somerset with a George Tyler in 1871 and 3 children Martha ,George and Walter, but no Alfred or Emily . Emily got married in 1877 Alfred in 1886 so would have expected them to be with their mother or father ,as they were quite young still.. Any ideas thanks

thanks so much Maureen I have been looking for this lot on and off all day again, cannot understand where they went, I wonder if that is the right Kemp looks like it might be , dont know how I missed him unless he isnt down as the right birth area, will have a look at that thanks , dont worry too much, it looks like a long job.

I have the feeling with some of the census that occasionally, for whatever reason, a person either puposely or inadvertently does not get entered. There is also the genuine mistake when for instance if an individual is visiting elsewhere both home and visited assume that the other will enter them and neither does. I know it's supposed to be where you are at the time, but it doesn't always work that way.

hi Gloria, yes I agree sometimes they didnt want finding , but I dont see how the mother daughter and son can have all disappeared after 1861until the children got married .I wondered if maybe the mother had died and they were put in homes or something???

I have a family like that Valerie...do you think that the children may sometimes have been 'farmed out' with a couple who just gave them the same name as themselves for a few years.....then when they got older, reverted back to their proper name. Something must happen because I have loads of missing young children and teenagers Jean

Hi Jean its a mystery isnt it , I did find 2 of my children in one family had been sent by Dr Barnados to Canada because their father died and the mother could not cope with them , its so sad.I have almost found what happened to them. Maybe yours had that happen to them it was quite common.I found my Nan Grandad their son all under a different surname on one census but the baby was missing and I know she was alive then, they must have hid her under the blankets or something, I know they were always dodging the Rentman.Good luck

do you mean about the barnados or the false name .I found out about the Barnados by chance was chatting to the only surviving Sister of my dad and she casually said that her Dads Brother and Sister were sent to Canada as children, I was amazed as I had no idea, she then went on to say her Mother my Nan had written to them for years and one had married a Doctor the other a Dentist or Solicitor she wasnt sure which.As the names were quite unusual, they were fairly easy to trace. The census with the family under a false name , was by chance I knew the babys birth address so looked it up on the 1901 census and there they were minus baby.A lovely man on here spotted them as he recognised their first names. So dont give up they are out there somewhere
