Hi I have now got my family tree maker programme on computor. Can anyone point me to a thread that can explain to me (as if I was a five year old) how to transfere my data from Genes to FTM. Thank you Tina |

Hi Tina The way to do it is to create a GEDCOM file (which has a suffix .GED On this Genes screen, look down the left hand side. Under Other useful tools, click on Import/Export Tree. Select the Export option (never done it so I don't know what it looks like). The end result is that Genes will send you an e-mail with a GED file of your tree as an attachment. I find it convenient to keep all my tree stuff in a sub-folder of My Documents, so I'd copy the GED file there. Open up FTM and sect File / Open. Change the file type to GEDCOM and find your file. Hit OK and it should import it and save it as a FTW file. If you have a slightly non-standard family with the same person in twice, you can locate the duplicate people and change them into one person. That's something you can't do on Genes. J |
