Try as I may I just can't get this right... Ann Brook (born 1831) had a child with Father Unknown called Arthur Brook (born 1852). She then married William Sparks (born 1831) and they went on to have children together. What is showing is Father Unknown being married to William Sparks and them having Arthur Brook together with Ann Brook just being tagged on the side Can someone help me please?!!

Make sure the genders are correct first of all....it sounds like you may have one of the fathers as female rather than male!

you need to click on to ann and add a nouther partner then go back on to arthur click on the parent tag and you can choose which father to put him with (I think) or delete arthur click on his mother add Arthur then click on father button and you get choice which father he is to be with hope makes sense Jeanette

Yes, I've checked all the genders are correct and tried Janette's suggestions (again) and nothing;s budging! I think I'm going to have to delete all those names after Arthur's (only just found out about William Sparks and the marriage and their children together) and start again!! Blast!! Thanks Lyndsey

Lyndsey Once your tree starts getting a life of its own, you may find it's easier to get tree software on your PC (I use Family Tree Maker - the 2005 version can be had for under £10). FTM and other software can deal with complicated relationships (multiple marriages, marriages of cousins or marriages of widowed spouses) which Genes struggles with. J

Thanks John, I have already got Family Tree Maker 2006 but like to keep my Genes tree up to date too as I have had a few successes with the Hot Matches. Cheers Lyndsey

John, I'm seriously considering buying FTM.....which version should I buy?? I have checked out the website, but obviously they are marketing the up to date one only!

I bought the 2006 version because I wasn't sure about upgrades and how they work etc. It was about £30.00 I think. I'm still learning how to use it to it's full potential. It has an instruction DVD with it which is helpful. I haven't got any complaints about it (yet!). Lyndsey
