This is a branch of my earlier thread - just realised the request for help might have got lost at the bottom of that one .... |

I'm going to get both William's birth certificates - I found Junior in 1870, and I think senior in 1843, but I'm having problems reading the vol and page number. Could somebody have a look for me please: Name: William F_Oth Sephton Year of Registration: 1843 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Foleshill County: Warwickshire Volume: 16 Page: 316 (click to see others on page) It is actually at the top of page 55 of the scan. Thanks Mark |

vol looks like XVI (ie 16) - you can check if this is right on Genuki's registration districts pages. First digit is 3, last digit is 6 Middle one - gosh! 4, I think, judging by the numbers on the rest of the page. I'd say 16 p. 346. Genuki says vol 16 is right too: FOLESHILL REGISTRATION DISTRICT Registration County : Warwickshire. Created : 1.7.1837. Sub-districts : Foleshill; Sowe GRO volumes : XVI (1837-51); 6d (1852-1930). |

It is Foleshill, vol 16, page 386. See on your other thread for more information from me and Gwyneth. Kate. |

Thanks all. Kate, how did you get the info on the page range? That could be very helpful in future. I windered if the middle name was Frdk - short for Frederick but it'll be exciting if its Froth as I haven't found any family names yet! Mark |

Mark. Reference is xv1 386. Not 316. If you blow the image up you can see the faint strokes. Foleshill looks right, comparing the capital F with a Female lower down the page. His middle name looks like Froth. There are stranger names, but the certificate will show what the registrar actually wrote. J |

If you magnify image, the middle 8 becomes clearer. Mark It is actually easier to help if you keep all the information on one thread. Don't worry, we become used to reading to the end of a message. lol Gwyn |

Mark, go onto the FreeBMD home page, and click on the 'Information' button. Then go down to the 'Statistics' section, and click on 'Districts'. Then go down to the 'Page Ranges' section, and click where it says, 'Look here for an index by event type and year,'. Then choose the event / year combination you want, for example Births 1843. You will then get all 4 quarters for that year, one after the other (if FreeBMD has the information available for all 4), so make sure you scroll down to the right quarter! The 'Lowest-Highest' column tells you the lowest and highest page number they have found for that district. (But it is possible there is a lower or higher one that they haven't transcribed - if you think so, check that it is higher than the 'highest' for the previous district or lower than the 'lowest' for the following district.) Kate. |

You may want to investigate the possibility that this freebmd information may link in. TROTH and FROTH could look similar in script. Gwyneth - you're a star! Mary Troth is down on the Sephton family info I was given as Wiliam (1844)'s mother - I haven't got that far back with my checking, so didn't click at first. (Though I'm not sure why they were in West Brom!) Many thanks! Mark Kate, thanks for that - I'll have a look at that. Mark |
