I have been having a wander around this site and wonder what is a Gedcom, what would I use it for, is it useful, will it make me want to screem with frustration??????? Kathlyn |

Gedcom is computer software that helps you move genealogy info from one package to another. Think of it as a sort of suitcase. You can use gedcom files to put your GR tree into paf or to move your Family Tree Maker info into Family Historian, for example. nell |

Expanding a bit on what Helen said. GEDCOM is an 'industry standard' file format for storing family tree infomation. It originated with the LDS church. So no matter what family tree software you use, the vast majority of the infomation can be read. It is in plain text so it can also be read into a spreadsheet (if you know how). J |
