Where are they????

I have been searching through Ancestry for the marriage of my 2xg grand parents. I have searched through 5 years, (2 either side of the abt. year) finding several Amelia Jennings in the right location. I then did the same with him, James Hadley, but was unable to match any of the references. Yes they did marry, 1854, as it would have been unthinkable for them not to have 'walked down the aisle'. Any suggestions as to how I should now proceed???? Kathlyn

How do you know they married? How do you know it was 'unthinkable'? You'd be amazed how much living in sin went on in Victorian times. Have you checked to see if either party was previously married to someone else which would prevent a marriage? I have a lot of untraceable marriages, despite looking through GRO indexes and parish registers. Having said that, how do you know they married around 1854? You might need to look earlier and later. nell

I think you will find many people married (if they ever got around to it) after their children were born. I have had it many times while researching my family history. Good luck Irene

Where have you got the information about Amelia's surname? Was it on a child's birth certificate? Maybe she was previously married before meeting James, in which case you won't find a match. Can you post census details of them and we'll try to help. Gwyn

Kathlyn, haven't we searched for this before? Sorry if I'm remembering wrong, but the names ring a bell! I can't remember the details of your last thread about these people, though. If you can find it, perhaps you could nudge it up so we can see what has been done before? Kate.
