I am looking for William Sephton b 1844 in Foleshill, son of John and Mary Sephton. I've got him in 1851 and 1871 - in 1871 he is married to Mary Ann and has a son William aged 10 months (I think). I can't find him in 1861 and I can't find a marriage - the only one that seems to match is 1873 to Mary Ann Dewis (but I can't find her in 1861 either or separately in 1871 either) Can anybody help please? |

Where have you looked for the marriage so far? |

Hi Nell, Only on Ancestry for the marriage. William is my 2xG Grandfather and having been given tons of info on the Sephtons about a year ago i am trying to validate it. If necessary I'll buy the 1873 cert on the off chance. Thanks Mark |

Have you looked on Ancestry's Freebmd database or the complete index images? |

I'd be inclined to get the child's birth cert which will have mother's maiden name on it. .IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 British Isles Search Results | Download | Pedigree -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WILLIAM SEPHTON Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: ANN WARNER Family Marriage: 25 DEC 1873 Saint Lawrence, Foleshill, Warwick, -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Messages: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record. The source records are usually arranged chronologically by the marriage date. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source Information: Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type: M042081 1754 - 1845 0559233-235 Film NONE M042081 1845 - 1877 Of course its possible that the mother of the child is not the same woman as on the census and neither of them are for the marriages you/I found. nell |

Nell, Just the BMD database, although I've just checked William on the images for 1869 - 1871 with no luck. The information I was given had Mary Ann WALKER, so with your Ann Warner I think your suggestion is probably the best one. Ann Warner is the other female on the 1873 page with Mary Ann Dewis, and because of the census I was assuming it was Mary Ann - just shows how careful you have to be! Mark |

I'm going to get both William's birth certificates - I found Junior in 1870, and I think senior in 1843, but I'm having problems reading the vol and page number. Could somebody have a look for me please: Name: William F_Oth Sephton Year of Registration: 1843 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Foleshill County: Warwickshire Volume: 16 Page: 316 (click to see others on page) It is actually at the top of page 55 of the scan. Thanks Mark |

1843 birth in Foleshill XVI 386 is what I think. Is FROTH a clue to a linked maiden name.? Gwyn |

Right, the district does look like Foleshill, and the volume number is XVI, which is the equivalent of 16. The page range for Sep 1843 births for that district is 381 to 393, according to FreeBMD (which is why the district name is displayed in italics), so the page number must be 386. The 3 and the 6 are pretty clear; it is just that the 'thin' stroke of the 8 has faded making it look like a 1. So volume 16 (or you can put it in Roman numerals as XVI if you prefer), page number 386. Oh, and his middle name is Froth. Kate. |
