family tree via spreadsheet

To insert a Hyperlink on a spreadsheet: Click on a cell. Then hold down Ctrl key and K at the same time. Select Link to file or URL from drop down box or Browse your files from your PC. Click OK and then you should have your hyperlink in your spreadsheet. Click on it to open the file or web page you selected. A Macro is a series of instructions written in Visual Basic Computer language. To write a Macro: Click on Tools > Macro > Visaul Basic Editor Hope it helps Anna x

Hi, quick update, have just tried and if you format excel cell to general you can type in date format like 10-1-1876, I tried it and it seemed Ok - Gill :))

Question to Richard - Can you not format the cells with dates in to be general and then type in??? Should try really am sitting at comp. with Excel on it! Also can I be cheeky and ask if I pm. with email addy. would you send me macro?? thanks Gill :))

That sounds interesting, Can you tell me please what is a macro? I am sure it's something I should know about but I don't. I once copied a tree into excel and it took me ages to do. If there is a better way I would love to know it. Eve

Are you talking about Microsoft Excel? I have a macro that imports a Gedcom into Excel. If you'd like a copy, pm me with your email address & I'll send you a copy. No point in getting it if you don't have Excel, though! It won't work on MSWorks either. I use Excel to store all my census and BMD info. It's great as you can set up hyperlinks to scanned copies of the actual documents. I can then see at a glance what data I have and what I'm missing. Dates can be a problem in Excel though, as the program doesn't recognise dates pre-1900. However, there are several add-ons that enable you to work with dates back to 1/1/0100 - which should be plenty far back enough for most trees!! Richard

Have you done ur tree via spreadsheet? I have family tree maker software but i also want to add the tree via spread sheet and print that of but was wondering what would be the best way to do it
