Jennifer, if you look on the Probate Office website then you will find all the details of how to order a search and copy of a will on there, including the form to fill in. I'm sure you can't order a search on the phone. You have to pay your £5 whether or not they find anything. So if you can get to a record office which has a copy of the National Probate Calendar, you will probably find it better to do the search yourself and then order copies of any wills that you find details for. Website address http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1183.htm That page has lots of information, and then click on 'Forms and Guidance' and enter form number PA1S. Kate. |

You can search the Probate calendars yourself at most archives throughout England. If you can find the reference yourself you can send to York for it for £5. the address is on the other threads. Anne |

I'm not 100% certain of this but I think they will do a search for you if you have an exact name, date and place of death. Kath. x |

I've just been reading through old threads and found an address and telephone number in London where a copy of every will proved is to be found. My question is: Do you have to know there was a will written or will they do a search for you? My g grandfather who owned a shop is my only rellie who is likely to have left a will. Thanks, Jennie |
