I think you'd be better ordering the birth, it is just as likely to prove/disprove whether she is Enoch's daughter but you have added bonus of MMN etc. England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index: 1837-1983 Record about Sarah Elizabeth Howl Name: Sarah Elizabeth Howl Year of Registration: 1850 Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep District: Walsall County: Staffordshire Volume: 17 Page: 249 (click to see others on page)

Linda, That death (I presume) is the death of Enoch and Elisabeth's daughter.

So now I have Enoch married Elizabeth Earp Meek, who is the mother of the girls. But I can't work out why Mary Baggett would be mother in law on 1851 and what happend to John Howl (c1841) and Sarah Elizabeth (c1850)?

although, this would match that marriage... Name: Elizabeth Earp Howl Year of Registration: 1850 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Walsall County: Staffordshire Volume: 17 Page: 162 (click to see others on page)

right, so to sum up so far... looks like he was married to Elizabeth Baggott first, who must have died in 1850 (baby born and then he remarried). That means that the marriage I found doesn't look likely and neither does the death, unless first Elizabeth died and then he remarried ELizabeth Baggett quickly.

looks like there definately was a marriage, and it wasn't to Martha. SARAH ELIZABETH HOWL Female -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: 30 JUN 1850 Saint Lawrence, Darlaston Near Wolverhampton, Stafford, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: ENOCH HOWL Family Mother: ELIZABETH

from IGI - marriage to wife number 1, possibilty, it would match up with being about the 'normal' age to marry. ENOCH HOWLE Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: ELIZABETH EARP MEEK Family Marriage: 26 DEC 1833 All Saints, West Bromwich, Stafford, England

Name: Elizabeth Howl Year of Registration: 1847 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Walsall County: Staffordshire Volume: 17 Page: 175 (click to see others on page) and this Elizabeth's death... most probably not as Sarah Elizabeth was born in 1850..

you could alwasy order the death certificate for Martha and see if it does say 'wife of Enoch Howl' It may be that the children (Mary and Ann) were from yet another marriage - and the marriage certificate you have is for his third marriage.
