Member Since: February 2005 Posts: 69 Send Message	How do I apply for a Birth Certificate when I only roughly know the year of birth. I have the marriage Cert, so I know the father's name and that is all. I've trawled through Ancestry but no luck. I've seen this question on here before, but can't find the thread. Maggie

	Maggie, you can apply to the GRO with incomplete information, but you have to pay extra for them to search for the cert. If you know which local register office would have registered the birth, then you could ask them. But personally, I would always make sure I found the birth registration in the GRO indexes or a local BMD online index before ordering a cert. Best thing to do is to post up the details that you have and see if anybody on here can find a possible birth reference in the indexes, or give you some further pointers. Kate.
