Hi xxxxx Ive been trying to locate my great grandads death but seem to have drwan a blank (Linda on records board has tried as well xxxx and Linda didnt find anything either!!!!!) Ive been searching for weeks and weeks going over the same BMD's over and over. He married in 1906 had my grandad in 1907 but when grandad married nanna in 1930 his dad was deceased. His name was James Webb he was born at Weybridge Surrey in 1860 he moved to Nottingham at some point and married my great Nanna Alice Hooton in 1906. I looked again myself as well from 1906 (when they married to 1930) and same as you nothing Then again I lost him on all census got him on the 1861 then nothing rather elusive family lol. I did find this Death and thought it may be him as this was the only one who's age was the same and it is James Webb d apr may jun 1915 Sheffield 55yrs 9c 750. But if this is him whats he doing in Sheffield? I cant seem to find him on any census either only when he was 4 months old and with his parents and brothers & sisters in 1861. Do ya think the one I found in Sheffield is him? How do I find out if it is? Thank you Luv Angie xxxxx

The only way to find out really is to order the death certificate. Sheffield district is not that far from Nottingham, and don't forget, if he was in Sheffield for the day and died suddenly then the death would be registered in Sheffield, not in the district where he was living. Kate.

Hi, it could be, Sheffield is only 20 minutes away from some parts of Nottingham. People did travel about then so its very possible. Good luck, Laura x

Only way you can know for sure is to order to death certificate, hopefully the informant will be a family member you recognise, and it will tell you the occupation so hopefully that will tie in with what you have on him. Good Luck Fuzzy x

As for the censuses, I have had a quick look at the 1861 and I see that all the family except for James have 'British Subject' for their birthplace, which suggests they may have been born abroad? So could it be that they went abroad again after that census? Kate.

I've had to order a couple of death certs from the local office as they were not on the GRO indexes. Luckily they were further back than the time you need, but I located them through burial indexes. I have checked the GRO again after getting the certs and they are NOT on there. Something to think about maybe

Thank u all so very much xxxxxxxxxx Sorry its taken me all day n nite to get back (been dragged here there and everywhere by everyone today boohoo) Before I send for that cert I found ill nip back to the archives in the morn when i go to town to collect 2 death certs and check parish registers (as someone suggested it may be in them and not on the BMD thank u for that xxxx) Mmmmmm the british subject thing is dodgy lmao I dont know why they put that on the 1861 census cus Susannah was actually born at Isle of Portland Dorset as were some of the kids William was born in London so why they put that I aint gotta clue (but im ceasing to be suprised by my Webb family any more lol) Does anyone know why they would have put that? You might want to check CWGC.org in case he died in the War. Did he have a middle initial? Rose
