Sorry I haven't replied before, been a bit tied up today. I thought that knowing a persons birthplace was half the battle and narrowed the field considerably. I'll try Isabella White, but I think Merry has come close with with the name Loe or Lowe and the age and place, it all seems to tie in. It's another avenue to explore. Thanks Merry. Gloria

You need to get the second marriage cert to David Tubbs (was that his name?) in 1882/83......this will give her father's name and therefore (hopefully) her maiden name. I had been working on the theory that Isabella began life as Isabella Loe (or Lowe) as there's a girl of that name on the 1861 census born in Headley, aged 4. I wondered if she or her mother had married a Mr White, explaining the 1878 marriage entry, but as yet have found nothing. From memory the parents of Isabella Lowe/Loe were Francis and Ellen. Merry

And it does look as if Isabella White married John Cawte - because this 1881 census record eliminates the other two - or looks like it: Name: Rhoda Furze Age: 32 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1849 Relation: Wife Spouses's Name: William Gender: Female Where Born: St Mawes, Cornwall, England Civil parish: Aldershot County/Island: Hampshire Country: England Street address: 'Corps Of Royal Engineers' South Camp Aldershot RG11; Piece: 786; Folio: 8; Page: 20 Household Members: Name Age Albert Furze 1 Bessie Furze 2 George Furze 4 mo Rhoda Furze 32 William Furze 34 Christine

Gloria I really don't understand what her birthplace has to do with where she got married? It seems an almighty coincidence of unusual names if this is the WRONG marriage, surely? OC

No Merry Monty I didn't mean dropping it full stop, just until I can corner her at the Hampshire Record Office, the more stumbling blocks I encounter the more determined I am to find her history because I now realise that there were things which were kept rather quiet within the family. John: the Isabella White you have come across is not the correct Isabella, my Isabella was born at Headley, Hampshire, which is the one close to Newbury, believe me I have read and reread all the information to make sure there is nothing I have missed. I have discovered her first husbands birth and death records, but I cannot get past her first marriage to her birth, but I will.

Hello everyone, Thanks to all the bits of help from everyone I've found John Cawte born 1844, died 1881, but I cannot find Isabella before she married him. There seems to be no record of the marriage as there is with ancestors further back. If they were married I estimate it to be about 1878. I think I'm going to drop this for a while and concentrate on someone els because she's driving me up the proverbial. I'll probably be back with another problem shortly. Gloria
