After Googling 'Italian Names' found Gualtiero - Italian and Spanish form of English 'Walter' meaning 'Ruler of the Army'.

The correct spelling's Gualtiero, and it's the Italian version of Walter. Lots of Italians emigrated to Argentina, which is why the name's found there too. As a surname it's usually written Gualtieri. Edit: Sorry, just read the date, so Roger's right, it's the Latin version of Walter.

Fret not, Lynda:) Gualterus was the Latin version of Walter, and Gualteri would be the genitive, meaning 'of Walter'. Probably had filia before it meaning 'daughter'? So probably he was English, if he lived in Worcs. Roger

I was looking for my rellie Margareta Mence btn abt 1578 in Worcs. On the LDS site I thought I had found her, but on the site they show her with two different fathers names walteri and Gualteri. I have no doubt that walteri and gualteri are the same person. What country would the name gualteri mence come from?
