Is it possible to find out why someone was awarded the MBE? - Thanks, Sam

If you google MBE and go onto the Wikipedia site it brings up different honours - but also has a list of all recipients of each one. Look - I know the answer to something! x x x

Oh no I dont - you wanted reasons not name, b****r!

Oh no - I do know after all - if you go onto afore mentioned list of recipients and click on the name you are interested in in brings up a little biography of that person - so info should be in that bit. Good luck.

There's a paper called the Gazette I e-mailed them because they have list's of 'Honours'. Took them a few days to get back but if they don't have info. they will tell you where to look. Hope this helps. Lin.

You can search the Gazette here....remove brackets http://www.gazettes-online(.)co(.)uk/archiveSearch.asp?WebType=0&Referer=full It tells you in a general way why the honour was awarded. Gwyn

what about the library service on-line to search the Times Digital. The one I use is the Bedfordshire Library, [no I don't live in Bedfordshire]. You register with them and get a Card number, a PIN number and when you go to search you are given a password. I haven't got the address saved in my favourites yet as we've a new pc but I'll find it for you.

The Times probably won't give you a reason, but it should provide you with a date. If you know where in the country the person lived, you might find something in a local paper, with the date from The Times to help you! I think in The Times you only get surname and initials, so you might still be stuck if he or she is ''A Smith''. Merry

They seem to have updated and changed their site and it took a while to find my way around it. But here is the address http://www.galaxy.bedfordshire.gov.uk/cgi-bin/vlib.sh You will have to register. Josie HEY I saw something on there that sounds interesting but when I clicked on it I got that error whatever number come up. But it looks like they are doing something with Ancestry for searches. Anyone know anything about this???? I'm all for finding out about free searches.
