Hi folks, I'm just trying to order a birth certificate online and wanted to add reference checking points. The cost is coming up as £10, is this correct? If the checking points don't agree do I get refunded the £7 and if it does agree do I get the £3 back or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks

No Joanne - that's NOT right. Which site are you using (as Snowdrops rushes off to check which one it is because she doesn't use the GRO) Be right back!

D O T the box that asks if you have the GRO ref - then it will come up as £7 Adding a checking ref means if it doesn't match, they'll refund you £4...charging you only £3

I think it's only £7.00 if you don't have checking added isn't it?

You want this site:- http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ It will still cost £7 for the certificate if the reference checking points are correct. If it is the wrong certificate, they will refund you £4 and they keep the other £3 for doing the search. Don't pay more than this. Make sure you check the 'yes' box when it asks if the full GRO reference is known, otherwise it costs more. Kath. x

Sorry to bother you all again but I've put in all the details for the certificate then clicked on the reference checking button and clicked submit. It adds the certificate to the basket but its says number of reference checking points 0. When I clicked the ref check button I did not add any further details as they were already there from the first page. I only want the certificate if the fathers name is correct. Have I done it right or should it say 1 ref check points? Thanks for your patience. Jo.

you have done what I have done if it does not say a checking ref then you have not done it right you have to put in the checking ref something that isnt on the top two lines of the form you filled in because thats all they check anyway I believe. So you would put either the mother or fathers name for a birth cert you would expect to find on there, the fathers names on a wedding cert you would expect to find on there.etc etc is that clear??? probably not.So as you want to order a mans Birth Cert you could put his Fathers name or the mothers maiden name as a checking reference.

Joanne, Just put the details of the child's name and reference numbers on the first page when you order a birth certificate. Don't put any parents names on the first part. If you want to put the parents names as a checking point, do this after you click on reference checking button. Kath. x

At the moment im visiting Nottingham register office (shakespere street) for my certs as I go in one day and can collect them after 10am the following day. Theyre really lovely there too they grin at me when I walk in as if to say here she comes again lol. They look for the entry before I leave and before they ask me for any money (which is £7 like offline) The only time im gonna have to go back to ordering certs online is when I switch back to my Webb family down Surrey and my Fox family in Leicester. Otherwise can get my mitts on my certs really quick (im so flipping impatient lol) Luv Angie xxxx
