I put in family research and this then shows on the card statement when it goes thro. Its just a ref that you can recognise for the transaction.

Is there a box or section towards the bottom which says - do you want a checking reference ? If so click yes - and type his name in the applicable section.

when you have finished filling in the form you get an option at the bottom for reference checking you put that in there but dont be too specifc because if it doesn match even slightly they wont send it .

Thanks everyone for helping me out with my query. Another question now! I want to put that I only want the cert if the husband was 'Joe Blogs'. Where on the form can I put that? Jan

Hi Jan, A personal reference is just something you add so that you can quote it to them at a later date if you need to query it with them and also for you to tell the difference between this order and any others you may order, for instance I put in my pets name Travis0001 and then change to Travis0002 for the next order. Hope this has been of help and is clear. Fuzzy x

No - its just if you want to give your order a reference - like No.1. I suppose it is helpful if you are running a research business, or order a very large number of certificates at the same time, it would help identify which is which. You can leave it blank. You should see red asterisks next to boxes which you MUST fill in. I tend to keep the information I enter to a minimum - only filling out the compulsory boxes (unless of course I need a reference check against for example a parent´s name etc)

You don't need to put anything in there unless you want to in order to identify the cert when you receive it. I think it is more for the use of Professionals who may be searching any number of Trees.

Hi, I'm trying to order a death certificate online from GRO - the first time I've odered online. I've got to the part where it says;- >>Please type your personal reference for this >>application >>Your reference What does this mean please? Does it mean if you have any other info, like the name of the deceased person's husband? Jan
