In my local library-their are a lot of stillbirths entered for the 1920's on the burial records fiche-so if you knew the area and went through the different denominational burial records you may find something.

Rebekah, You won't find any record at all of the one born 1880. The one born in c1928 would depend on how accurate your date is. The will be nothing before 1927 and since registration only came in in 1927 for stillbirths, I'm sure there were a lot still not registered for quite a while until people got used to having to register them. But only the parents or siblings can get the information from the GRO. Kath. x

I was going to ask the same question! I have 2 stillbirths that Im CERTAIN took place but can find no record of. One was in c1928, the other in 1880.

As an update -a lady from a breavement service has said that ALL deaths are public information and once dead you are no longer granted the rights of privacy of a living person......this includes stillborn children she has said.....youalso have access to thier address at time of birth....just not allowed toknow details of their next of kin.I was surprised to say the least.

Are the Carlisle social services being anymore helpful about anything?

rogers death cert-not sure-but at least we know where-westmoreland-that will be the next enquiry after Marjorie and the child are found in carlisle.........gravestones to visit may help if they exist. I think the precise details will be sent in a day or two.

Ive discovered that he had a second uncle called ohn who was in canada by 1952- Ive got someone having a scout but Im not confident of finding any children of his (would be a first cousin for him) .

Ego Must try to get the info on the stillbirth, can't leave it there. Did they get little Roger's death cert? I meant to ask on other site.

Merry, Yes, I will - didnt know I could! I do know his date of birth but only because my daughter was born on the same day and month as him (not the same year, obviously) and it caused a bit of an upset in the family. OC

OC - get on and do it then! They are VERY helpful at the GRO.....I'm not quite sure whether I was cast aside for being a half sibling, or really because I don't know when the stillbirth happened during a 12 year marriage. Good Luck Merry

yep merry-and OC-just found out today.....sorry to bring up this subject.....just needed to be sure of the facts......a real rollercoaster this quest I can tell you.......the thread on BBC regarding it has now reached 1000 posts.Brian is getting edited highlights I think at the moment-I have so much info about his family on the IOM it might be too much all at once-Im trying to get it sorted into a sort of story,with pictures of the families homes there and the local church ith views of the 3 war memorials that refer to his uncle in WW2 who died in camp 17 Fukuoka.

Ego How dare you throw that in here, blimey it should be on your rivetting thread - I might have missed it on here!!! He will be able to access the Stillbirth Register though, as he is a sibling. How is he coping with all this, by the way? OC

Hi I know my grand /mother had a baby placed with her who was not related ,was informed by family it was usual if babys parent couldnt afford the burial.Dont know if this helps or not. Frankie

Thanks for that Deb I had a brother who was stillborn and the older I get, the more I would like to know why he died. My parents would never speak of him and I think I would like to get his certificate, to make him part of the family I hand on to the next generation. OC

arrr that explains it then....the grandaughter felt she had been told something that wasnt normally available-her dad(sibling of) wouldnt know how to enquire and we are doing his research....sad twist to a long story.......the mother had 6 year old twins when pregnant,gave birth to a son who later died aged 4,turns out there was a stillbirth on the same day....2 sets of twins.....mother died 2 months later of TB......twins put into care,the husband,not registered as their father marries again 9 months after and has 4 children in the space of 6 years.

It's held at the GRO at Southport. Note that half-siblings (like me) cannot access the registers :o(( Merry
