Hi Grampa Jim Thanks for looking,i have just gone through some info again and have posted another thread,i'm not so sure if i have the right birth cert now (from 1923). I can't even get any pointers on this one either,so to try and clarify things the info is on the other thread. Really getting confused now. Glen |

oooooh a tricky one Glen, If I had a gun pointed at my head I would go with the first option. I have a Florence C Lambert on the birth cert of one of my rellies, but she married as Clara F Lambert, this was in 1929 and years after the marriage the certificate was amended and notarised by the vicar that she was born as Florence Clara Alberta. I think it was quite common in those days for them to use a second name as a first. I suppose you could send off for the cert and see if the A stands for Annie/Ann. Have read all the reponses and you replies and I dont know how you can uncover further info to be more sure. Sorry Glen I suppose in all I have been as much use as a chocolate teapot!! Fuzzy x |

Sorry i didn't come back sooner, There are births for both the Greenwich and Newmarket births pre 1923,i haven't found any post 1923 as yet (now up to 1927 but perhaps i missed one,you never know) Now i know the 1945 marriage cert shows John is deceased, but without a definative place and year of birth it is pretty awkward to place the couple before and at the time of marriage. There are a few Townsend/Turner marraiges but the only close names so far are the ones in my original post.I wonder if Isabel A is Annie? It isn't a brickwall, just a wide hurdle, but i wish i knew something a little more. Glen |

Oh, and Glen, I just realised an easy way you can search for a marriage before 1915 to save all that trawling - on Family Relatives! Kate. |

Have you tried looking for other Townsend / Turner births in the post-1920 years to see if there were any in either Greenwich or Newmarket (or both), which might help to rule out one or other couple (or both)? Kate. |

Just a thought, if you can find either of them on the 1901 census (may not be easy I realise), it would give you an idea of age and therefore possible marriage date and where Annie was living, so likely marriage place. Mavis |

Hi Kathleen I'm not entirely sure and can't check with living rellies either.(the marriage is my birth family grandparents.) There is rumour of a sister born 1923/4 again in Lincoln, but i can't find a likely birth reference. John is recorded as deceased by 1945 (marriage cert for his son) and there is a Townsend birth for Greenwich with mmn of Turner in 1922. Basically i have the birth cert and need the marriage, have trawled from 1915 through to 1927 for births and 1915 to 1923 for marriages. There are marriages closer to Lincoln, but for a William,Charles and Maud Townsend. It might be earlier than 1915 but i couldn't say either way. Glen |

I can't imagine it would be the second one - where would Henry fit? Do you know if the birth certificate you have is for the eldest child, or could the marriage have been a long time before that birth date? Kath. x |
