Hi, Plesae can someone help me, I have been looking for my Nan and Grandads birth certs, have put in the dates, ( which have come from family members) and done a search 2 years +/- and nothing. Is there another way I should be doing this? Sorry if you have heard this a thousand times, I am new to this and getting confused. Jenny |

Sometimes, the records don't actually contain all the people we are searching for I'm afraid! I've searched for people in the past and been unable to find them. I'm sure some kind soul on here would have a look for them if you gave the details. If they are live, do it in a PM. Mandy |

Jenny, Where are you looking for them and who are you trying to find? If they are 'living' and you ddon't want to put their details on here - click on my name and send me the details in a pm and I will try to point you in the right direction. Dea x |

It depends when you think they were born. If it is after 1910 they will not show up on FreeBMD - you will need to search the complete images, searching quarter by quarter, year by year. Are your grandparents still alive - if not would you like to give us their names and approx year and place of birth and we will point you in the right direction. |

Ada P Downard 1925 2nd quarter Mothers maiden name Sparkes District Edmonton, volume 3a, page 723 Don´t worry that it has been registered in the 2d quarter of 1925 (April May June) even thought you believe she was born in March. There was a 40 day period in which you could register a birth and that it why it appears in the quarter followingher birth. How did I find it - go to http://www.ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx remove the brackets you will see the top section is Complete Images - click on births. Enter the name and year - you will then get the 4 quarter appear. Look in the April May June quarter and you will see the entry. Only use the bottom section (free BMDs) if you want something before 1910 - IF you don´t find it there then you would need to trawl through the complete images. If you don´t have a subscription to Ancestry you will need to register with the site first. Any queries - come back to us and we´ll try to help. |

Ada P Downard - mmn Sparkes Edmonton 3a 723 Dea x This was found on Ancestry - I believe it is still free to view Bmd details. Use the 'search complete Bmd' facility - just enter the name and year and the page will come up. Give it a try for James and let us know if you have a problem. Dea x |

Can I just add that if you intend to get their birth certificates then the site to go to is http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ Cost is seven pounds for each certificate. Make sure you tick the box that says you have the GRO reference otherwise you will be charged 11 pounds. |

Well, if you don't know which of those 3 James Woods entries is the correct one, then you can specify 'checking points', for example his exact date of birth, when you order the certificate, so that they don't send you the wrong one. Happy hunting! Kate. |
