I think it says James Brown, weaver, present. This is roughly what I would expect it to say - ie name proffesion and if present at the death. The word weaver is the same as that under the father's name. Anne

I think the second word after James Brown is (present) written inside brackets. Cause of death is definitely Gastro-Enteritis. Time looks like 9hrs.30m, a.m. to me. Think the undertaker's name is Fyfe. Kath. x

Could the word after James Brown (or Brewin?) perhaps be 'nephew', very badly written?

Practically certain cause of death is Gastro-Enteritis. Think undertaker's surname is Fyfle. Can't make sense of the first word after James Brown, but I'm pretty sure the second is (prasant), maybe supposed to be present but they look like a's not e's (ie present at death). Best I can do. Mavis

I've managed to get Brown, Martha - Wife of Custom house Officer 1857, August Twenty Eight, 9h30m A.M.?, King street, Port Glasgow F, 63 years Richard Marshall, Weaver, (deceased) / Janet Marshal, maiden name Balfour ??, Several Weeks, As certified? by Douglas Reid Surgeon who saw deceased(?) 27th August Parish Church Burying Ground, As Certified by John ? , Undertaker James Brown, ?, ? 1857, August28th at Port Glasgow, Wm Smith?, Registiar just stuck on time of death, Reason for death and the bits after James brown
