Going to Bascote Heath/Ufton etc soon, to see farmhouse my husbands ancestors lived in. All he's doing is whingeing and moaning that we'll be trespassing and we'll get shot! Miserable sod. |

They are all the same - they just do not understand !! Just go , and when you get back, share your experience with us. - We will know where you are coming from. Such a share that we can't share it with our 'living' loved ones, but hey ho!! - that's the way it goes. Look forward to your update later today. Dea Xxx |

Tell him not to be so daft, lol. We went to see a farm in Northumberland where my hubby's great grandfather farmed in the 1850's and we drove straight into the farmyard. The present farmers son was there and when he came across to the car, we told him why we were there and he told us to just wander around and take as many photos as we wanted. He also showed us an old barn which he said would have been there at the time of hubby's ancestors. I think most people are helpful if you just explain why you are there. Kath. x |

Went to a village in Lincolnshire a couple of weeks ago and couldn't sleep that night as I kept 'hugging' it to me. Just so thrilled to have been where they lived all those years ago. Pauline |

Just showed him your posts (thankyou!) and he muttered something like 'Well dont blame me if he comes running at you with a shotgun' lol. Thing that amazes me is, its HIS family Ive spent all the time and money on, while I neglect my own tree. |

My Mum doesn't know what all the fuss is all about and my brother just laughs at me - I'm finding THEIR ancestors. Well, at least I'm happy to find them! |

I must be one of the very few lucky ones in as much as my other half gets just as excited as I do about any ancestors I find - note the 'I FIND' bit. He then goes off telling everyone about it as if he's done all the research. To be fair if he didn't work so hard he would love to do more searching, but time just doesn't allow it. We do plan some great days out and have had lovely weekends away 'Walking in their footsteps'. I too have been to many a farmhouse and yes, the present day owners have always been welcoming and most interested in what you tell them and in turn they can give you information back. I think there's only one person on here who's had a bad experience and that was OC!!! (please correct me if I'm wrong) I believe it was her brother who got chased off (or at lease not given a warm welcome anyway!!!). Go for it, I'm sure you'll have a great day and you never know, he might just get the bug too!!!! |

Yep, the owner set the dogs on my brother! To be fair, it was no longer a farmhouse and it WAS very isolated - I TOLD him to write or ring first! OC |

my OH has been very good lately, the last 3 weekends he has trawled cemeteries with me looking for headstones. On Saturday he even trod down the brambles so I only got half as many scratches on my legs when I tried to take pics! Linda |
