You have a choice....... to see the original usually means going to the relevant record office or you can order the microfiche from LDS. The info on both can vary. Sometimes you just get father and/or mother. Sometimes mother's maiden name, sometimes even the child's birth date. Parents ages are very rare. Depends on the vicar Have you gone onto the page beginning with 'C' lots in there. A tip, if you change the 'C' to 'M' it will give you the marriages there. Good Luck |

If you got the info from a 'batch', the details given are transcripts of the parish registers. The chances of getting mother's maiden surname are slim...............the parents' ages will not be given, and you have to assume that the child was born more or less where it was christened...........unless it is not a baby. Very rarely, the child's birthdate is given.........you should, however, see the names of the godparents. Reg |

You've found the record for the person you want.............you've scrolled down and found the batch number C******* at the bottom left hand corner............ Now, click on that batch number to get a new screen. Enter the surname in the appropriate box..........and the first names of mother and father in the boxes to the right of that. Click on search.........you'll get a new page with all of the baptisms in the batch whose parents' names match the ones you entered. If the dates are close-ish, chances are they are siblings. Now..............click on 'refine search' at the top right You'll go back to the previous page............. Leave in the surname, but remove the forenames. Now, go to the batch number, and delete the C................replace it with M.......and click search. Hope this helps Reg |

Angela In my experience of Parish Registers, you DO sometimes get useful information from the originals, that is, more information than has been transcribed by the LDS. You can order the film from your local LDS centre - costs about £2.70. They will then ring you when it arrives and you have a month to study it in their centre. You can take photocopies for about 10p of any entry which interests you. Normally what I do, say I am looking for Joe Bloggs, born about 1768 - I go right through the PR, noting down ALL the events concerning any Bloggs. Then I take it home and construct 'trees' as far as I am able to, for all these people. This helps a lot when you have confusing info, or several men with the same name. OC |

Angie Parish Registers as old as you want are very unlikely to still be at the Church. They will probably be in the County Records Office. Depending on whether that is nearer to you than your nearest LDS centre, will decide you which way to go! To find your nearest LDS Family History Centre, go on to the LDS Site (Family Search, where you found the IGI) and on the Home Page should be a link to Family History Centres. That should take you to a list with phone numbers and addies. OC |
