You could try the overseas section of 1837, it might be registered under consular entries. :-) Keith

Margaret I don't have any concerete information for you but have you tried googling (always your first point of research). I've just googled royal natal police and a few sites come up which contain those words but nothing on the first page which is specifically about them. Having said that I did find this site: http://khozi2.nu.ac.za/albumead.htm Which, if you follow the link above contains loads of photos specifically of the police force during the time you quoted. It also has an address to write to which could be made use of (no email I could see unfortunately) and telephone numbers, which mean you could contact them and explain your situation and they may be able to point you in the right direction as they seem to be a research/museum facility of some sort (sorry only looked at it quickly so please forgive any strange explanations I come out with!) With regards to the Yorkshire woman marrying a Prussian in Egypt may I suggest contacting the British Embassy (again, google for the address) in Egypt and asking them to point you in the right direction (have you any idea whereabouts in Egypt they married - it's pretty big, but I would have thought initially Cairo). If you are looking specifically for the Boer war records as well, you will find these located at Kew which will need a personal visit or, if you are lucky, someone will be going and will kindly do a look up for you. You can always put up another thread requesting a look up either on here or on records. Hope this gives you a few ideas to begin looking with. Snowdrops

Has anyone any idea how I could trace a relative who left Yorkshire to fight in the Boer War. At the end of the war he stayed in South Africa and joined the Royal Natal Police. He married a girl (name unknown) his sister from yorkshire took out to Africa. They had family. At least one daughter. I dont know where to start looking for this information. How do I find a marriage record for an English girl who married a Prussian in Egypt in 1880? Thanks all you experts out there Margaret
