Help me find the elusive Alfred Thorley please

Paul I'm beginning to think they separated soon after marriage. They had a son born in 1868. I have never found them together on any census. Thanks to everyone who has helped Margaret |

Margaret, that's right. Don't forget, divorce was almost impossible except for the well-to-do. If the two of them were out of contact for many years maybe on that final census she described herself as a widow without knowing he was dead or alive. You may well find his death many years further on. |

Maureen That could well be him. The age and place of birth is correct. Perhaps the people he was staying with didnt know he was married. Thank you for your help |

Hi Kate No he wasn't a sailor. On his marriage cert in 1866 he was a Brickmaker Margaret |

I have Alfred Thorley b 1843. 1851 he is living with his grandparents: ref HO107; Piece: 2009; Folio: 395; Page: 9 1861 he is living with his grandmother, but is listed as George Alfred ref RG9; Piece: 1952; Folio: 52; Page: 6 24 Jul 1866 he marries Elizabeth Barker in Cheadle, Staffs. I have the marriage cert. 1871, Elizabeth is a married servant ref RG10; Piece: 2822; Folio: 70; Page: 2 no sign of Alfred 1881, Elizabeth is with her parents ref RG11; Piece: 2693; Folio: 77; Page: 6 no sign of Alfred 1891, Elizabeth is a widow and living with her widowed mother ref RG12; Piece: 2143; Folio 68; Page 13 I can't find Alfred on the 1871 or 1881. I can't find his death either. This has been driving me mad for weeks, please can someone help? Margaret |
