I'll second that... I always look for extra children born & dying young if there are gaps in the usual pattern of a baby every 2 years or so... trouble is, if its a common surname in the area, it gets expensive sorting them all out. any offers to get me all the Symes between 1852 and 1863 in North Somerset or London - particularly any Charlottes, Marys or Eleanors |

Hi Jim, I agree.....I have a number of children that were born and died between census years. Also I think it should be said....Don't assume when looking through birth indexes that children born in the same place and same time frame as your family are yours.....always get the certs to prove it!!!! I echo that. Someone keeps telling me i have three children too many for one couple,'because they don't appear on the census'. The family didn't move between the census and the birth and death certs show the correct address etc for the 'extra' children, but it would appear i am still wrong!!!! I think i know who is most likely to have the correct family details, thing is it isn't even my direct line, but it is the other persons. Glen |

A Tip. Because two successive censuses show identical family members, please don't assume that is all there were. Remeber that often children could be born and die, or even go to live with relatives during the intervening period and won't appear on the Census. |
