the weird thing is I miscarried a little girl at 5 months, she is buried in the same cemetery about 20 foot from where these Woods are, how many times have I walked past and not even given it a thought. since last message I have managed to confirm the Thomas as George's father. LDS has birth spot on.I'm now back another generation and I have managed to locate Nancy Venables on the 1851 census as a visitor with other family members that te in with the Woods. Linda xx |

Worth seeing burial records - the church might have a plan or map or something - they didn't all have headstones so there may be more! Jill |

Thank you all for your help with this.I'm so happy if I was fit enough I would do cartwheels!! Have just been back to cemetery and re-checked stone, on the sides I didn't notice it has William Wood son of George and Sarah died 20th feb 1867 aged 23 years ties in with census!!.other side Thomas Wood died 1867 aged 88 years (possible George's Father, I don't have him in my tree yet)next to it is a huge monument that says in memory of my brother Harry Ernest Wood died 1953 and also our parents buried near by Thomas & Margaret Mary Ann Wood all I need to do do now is find out who the other person on the stone could be Nancy Venables who died March 24th 1861 aged 76 years Linda |

thanks all, Janet I have been to 6 cemeteries in the past couple of weeks and taken about 100 photos, and this is the only one that in anyway remsembles my family.the rest must be with your paupers. This family however (gained from census info) had a brick making business and employed a lot of people, probably why they actually have a stone, there are 2 other Wood stones there, but more recent am going to go back and photograph them, might be able to tie them in somewhere Linda |

You could check the burial records, (poss. held by the church or local archives) get the death certificates for clues, look for a Will? Alternatively, DIG 'EM UP and look for a family resemblance:-))))) (Absolutely NO offence intended) I think your in luck with this one. If only my lot hadn't gone in paupers graves or been buried where I can't find them. |

What about the church that owns the graveyard, its just an idea but maybe it would be a good idea to search the parish records for burials, maybe it will give some more cles. Nicola |

I think it's looking good. In 1871 Sarah would already be Mrs Nash (I haven't looked for her), so that's why she isn't with the other Wood family. A variance of 2 years is more normal than being exactly 10 years older each census!! merry |

Linda I'm not too sure... just two things.... I cant see Sarah on the 1871... I can see Sarah the mother but not Sarah the sister who would have become Nash. Also on 1871 Nancy is aged 29 so should be 39 on 1881... I know how they werent too great at remembering their ages anyway but still wondered how she only aged 8yrs in 10. Shaz |

it's a bit long winded please bear with me After several trips round local cemeteries taking phots of what I hoped were some of my rellies I think today I finally hit the jackpot.BUT of course I don't want to assume anything so am trying to check as much detail as I can. Grave stone says in loving memory of GEORGE WOOD, of claremont house West Bromwich.Born may 8th 1807 died April 22nd 1880 Sarah his wife born May 15th 1811 died July 27th 1880 also Nancy Wood their daughter born Nov 3rd 1841 died March 5th 1925 in my tree I have from 1871 census Name: George Wood Age: 64 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1807 Relation: Head Spouses's Name: Sarah Gender: Male Where born: Audley, Staffordshire, England Civil Parish: West Bromwich Ecclesiastical parish: St Peter County/Island: Staffordshire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Registration district: West Bromwich Sub-registration district: West Bromwich South West ED, institution, or vessel: 20 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 2 Household Members: Name Age Hannah Davis 14 Edward Head 38 Arthur Wood 17 Daniel Wood 21 Enoch Wood 15 George Wood 64 Nancy Wood 29 Peter Wood 20 Samuel Wood 18 Sarah Wood 59 can't find the same family in 1881 so think they must be the people on the headstone, did however find Nancy in 1881 Name: Nancy Wood Age: 37 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1844 Relation: Sister in Law Gender: Female Where Born: West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England Civil parish: West Bromwich County/Island: Staffordshire Country: England Street address: 63 Old Meeting St Education: Employment status: View image Registration district: West Bromwich Sub registration district: West Bromwich North East ED, institution, or vessel: 12 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age Annie Nash 11 George Nash 9 Gertrude Nash 3 Harry Nash 8 Isaac Nash Jesse Nash 5 Mary Nash 7 Sarah Nash 35 Thomas Nash 41 Fanny Thenton 21 Nancy Wood 37 she is down as sister in law, so must be Sarah Nash's sister. as you can see from 1871 their is a Sarah. I don't want to get too carried away in my fairy tale, what else can I do to check please? Linda |
