Just had a look. I could not see any of mine. The prices look a bit steep not sure I would pay £50.00 or so but it could be useful as the site grows. |

I'm sorry to be a cynic but anyway - the familychest domain is registered to someone living in Leighton Buzzard and a check on the details given would appear to show someone called Allan Azurro lives at that address. Why is everyone in such a rush to put money into the pockets of someone who is clearly going to make a lot of money from this stuff yet can't be bothered to say where it's all come from or whether it's genuine?? And have you stopped to do the maths - a transcribed copy of the document could cost you £10 when the original is about £70. So if 20 people order a copy, the seller will be £130 better off than if they'd sold it. Hasn't it occured to anybody that this person also probably sells on ebay? Sorry to have a down on this, but I strongly object to things such as these being sold for profit instead of going into records offices for the availability of all, (both now and in the future). My feelings too, Jools, but at least they are not being made into lampshades, as used to happen! |

Jools, if this guy is providing a service surely he's at least allowed to cover his outgoings and make a bit of profit too? It seems to be a characteristic of we English to regard profit as a dirty word. What's the difference between what he does and an antique dealer? Would you walk into an antique shop and demand that the stock be donated to a local museum? |

I found a doc relating to two members of my family straight off, easily identifiable as it also mentions the name of a solicitor who was in charge of one of their wills. It's £50 though, i'm considering getting a copy for £10, although it woudl be really nice to have the original. Someone's bound to find a little gem on there I should think. |
