It is rumored that my Grandmothers 1st husband committed suice by either throwing himseld under a train or laying on a track. I am not sure of this as it would have been between 1901-1920. How would I go about finding out about this apart from newspaper reports? Any Ideas. It would have been in Porsea/Portsmouth area.

The obvious way would be to get his death certificate. Kate.

If you can track down his death certificate it should give details and if there was an inquest (which there should have been) then the coroner will be the informant. The inquest will probably be reported in the local newspaper fairly soon after the death. My gr.grandfather died in a railway a accident in 1913 and the accident was reported in the local newspaper the following day and the inquest reported about 3 days later. Kath. x

Alan My 3 x great uncle committed suicide - I have his death certificate and I quote: Cause of Death: deceased drowned himself in the River Roeburn whilst temporarily insane. Signature, description and residence of informant: Certificate received from Herbert D Wilson Deputy Coroner for Lancashire. Inquest held Seventeenth January 1912. This then tells me I can expect to find (and have found) a report in the newspaper concerning the Coroner's findings. Hope this helps some Snowdrops

Alan, have you checked the Black Sheep Index website, railways section? I'm not sure if it's within date range, but worth checking.

Paul, You are right - if the dates Alan gives are correct, then it should be on the Black Sheep Index (Railway Section). My grandfather's accident was on there and that was 1913. Google Black Sheep Index for the address. Kath. x
