Hi Elaine, thats amazing info thankyou so much!!! that might explain the other R hornby death in 1863?? and possibly the dob 1827 on the one who died in 1896. And with two boys with Hornby in their names it could be a family name or their mothers surname as ive had that before. thanks again.x |

Cherie Have you checked the IMAGE for 1901? It may be that 1824 and 1842 have been transposed. If they havent, then I would discount the 1901 as too much is wrong about it and there are several other candidates. Could you track the other men with this name through the various censuses? It might suddenly all become clear! OC |

I can't see him in 1891........perhaps you could post full details, so we have a clearer idea of the family members. Reg |

Hi there O.c and Reg, Im not 100% sure its the right man but following the census's the childrens names are the same upto 1891..it just went pear shaped at 1901 as his year of birth from his marr cert was 1825c. The info on 1901 said b.1842c,the wife was ann but the children wern't the same. I guess i wont know for def until i send for the cert, just didnt want to as ive had several wrong recently and hubby moaning im wasting his money, lol. Or the other hope is to track down his widowed wife in 1901 if i can. All i know on her is Ann worthington b.1839c Northwich,Cheshire she had at least 3 children of her own(james, thomas and mary e) before having fred and henry with Robert. thanks for your imput |

Cherie You say that 'you know from census records that he remarried' but how do you know you have found the right man, if there are several of the same name? OC |

hiya please will someone sort me out. got a rellie with what i thought was a un-commonish middle name.....but appears not!! Robert Hornby Watson b.1825 lancaster, was a joiner by trade. I recently got his marr cert and discovered he was a widow when he married my grtx4 gran in 1853 aged 28,my gran/his wife Martha jane (nee street) died in 1873 aged just 41. I know from census records that he re-married an Ann Worthington and they'd had two boys(henry and fred) by 1881, have him again on 1891 in Prestwich with 2 step-sons thomas and james and the 2 sons mentioned....then i had a kind person do a 1901 lookup but it cant be him?? the age is out by alot.i have found a death in 1863 and 1896.obviously its not him in 1863 and his dads named John watson so it isnt him.(didnt think it would be common middle name tho)but not sure if its his death in 1896 either?? anyone help me sort this dilemma please??id be eternally grateful |
