I've just been sorting the papers out for recycling tomorrow. Come across an article from a couple of days back saying that in future you will be asked to declare your income as a part of the census form.....Wonder whether people will put what they want or have to include a copy of their wage slip??....Another intrusion into our privacy??...What do you think......Dianex |

Why is it an intrusion into our privacy? The Government already know what we all earn and as the censuses are closed for 100 years, no one else will find out until long after we are dead. OC |

I was posing it as a question to see what others think, I don't really care one way or the other. Also how would they enforce it to be a true amount?? |

Diane I doubt if they would want it to the penny - it would probably be something like 'Which of these income brackets do you fall into?' - something many of us fill in every time we apply for a credit card etc. Actually, I doubt very much if the Taxman and the ONS could get it together to compare notes (!) so not much to fear there, either. Just another thing for the statisticians to play around with and to lead people in the future up the garden path, like the question about number of rooms. Barn conversion down the road from me only has three, but you could get lost in the so called living area and each of the 2 bedrooms has a massive ensuite and dressing area. The 'guest' cottage in the grounds will be recorded as a separate property, so in a hundred years time, people will think they lived in something really tiny what? Only 3 rooms? Jay |
