Could a Chair Maker be a Joiner ??

I have a Marriage Cert where it says the Father of the Groom is a Joiner the only one I can find with more or less the right details is a Chair Maker would you say thats the same man ??? |

Well joiners would make chairs and other furniture, so it could well be the same person if everything else fits. |

A joiner works with wood, I believe, akin to a carpenter. Perhaps he was a joiner of chair legs or something???? Jan |

Carpenter fits/makes wooden items for houses on site, e.g. skirting boards, door frames. A joiner makes wooden items for houses in a workshop, eg windows, doors. A cabinet maker makes furniture in a workshop. The basic skills are the same so a chair maker could move to joinery. (My husband was a carpenter.) Mavis |

My late FIL was a Master Carpenter. He finished his working life turning out chair legs on a machine for G-Plan furniture. OC |

Bear in mind that what was entered on the marriage cert was often the vicar or registrar's interpretation of the job description given them by the couple getting married. So, it would depend on how the question was phrased and the response given. Jay |
