thats seems a bit silly doesnt it???, ah well at least you got a quick reply

I finally got a reply from Ancestry (after sending the details twice!) We appreciate your message. We apologize for any inconvenience. Currently on Ancestry there is no way to update a GEDCOM in the Personal Family Trees. If you submit a Gedcom over another tree it will replace the tree. So the answer is no, if you update your tree on Ancestry, all the time you spent attaching sources was wasted. :(

Hi Mandy, I have only just uploaded my tree to ancestry so I don't have the answer but I was wondering...can you export your tree from ancestry and would the gedcom have the source notes attached to it??? I just think it's a real pain adding sources to my tree on roots magic and it would be great if I could do it easliy on ancestry and import into my real tree......Sorry, not trying to change the subject....it's sort of related!!!!! Hi Margaret nice to see you !!!! you can privatise your tree on there its so easy to use you can add photos and stuff easily too, and you can import your tree from here into there in one go no need to add them all individually Val

Mandy Report 15 Aug 2006 23:01

Margaret, I don't use FTM so I don't know! You can make your tree private if you want to.

Margaret Report 15 Aug 2006 22:58

How secure is this facility? I would be worried that the F/T could be stolen. Also is this totally different to FTM? Margaret N

hi Mandy I did see this earlier but as I didnt know how to help you didnt reply but you look so lonely waiting for a reply had to speak to you . I love the Ancestry Tree site I think its much easier to use than GR , Hope somebody helps you soon , but as its relatively new maybe you could email Ancestry themselves and ask if there is a way around it they are quite helpful. Good luck

I love the facility of attaching sources to my tree in Ancestry. However, because I import an up to date gedcom into it, periodically rather than use it as my first source, all connected sources of information like census forms are lost. Has anyone found a way around this? Thanks Mandy
