I have found one of my rellies on board HMS Speedwell in 1758. He is listed as a Midshipman and later on as a Master's Mate. DOes anyone know anything about this? I'm not sure what I can glean from this little nugget of information? Apart from this listing I know that he had three children in London at St Botolph's without Aldgate and a wife called ELizabeth in about 1783.

A Midshipman would probably be about 11 to 14 years old.
