I have tried twice to import my file onto ancestry but this is what it says: Error: The file you have specified (C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\Family Tree.paf) does not appear to be a valid GEDCOM file, please try again. Can someone please advise on what to do. thx Nicola |

When I did mine earlier the file i exported from genes to ancestry had a .gef extension. You might just want to do it that way. |

Hi Nicola the error message you got referred to the file you were sending as .paf. This is presumeably your main PAF file. You need to 'export' to a GEDCOM and use that to upload. Cannot be more helpful as I don't use PAF. |

Nope it still isn't allowing me to do it, and can't understand why, I have PAF 5.2 which I downloaded from family history site. Weird lol |

Hi Nicola the 'export' from your PAf programme will probably under the 'file' menu. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Maybe some other PAf users can assist. |

Hi Nicola, If you open your tree in PAF and then click on file you will get a dropdown menu. From this menu click on 'Export'. On the left hand side of the box that opens, click on the circle beside 'Other Gedcom' option so that there is a dot in the circle... Then scroll the Char Set down to ANSI. Now click the 'Export' button at the bottom. For ease, I always save this file to desktop, so that I can find it easily, but just remember where you saved it. This file will have an ending of .ged You will now be able to load this '.ged' file to GR. Hope that you can understand this. Good luck, Lyn |

Hi Nicola You're very welcome. Glad that you could understand it and even more so that it worked!! I did realize that you said Ancestry & that is what I meant, but it does work for GR, too. Just my old brain making me look silly again!! LOL. Anyway, glad that it worked for you. Regards Lyn |
