Gerry, Do you know what district the birth was in? I wonder if you could contact the local register office and see if they could find it given what you know. Rose |

I just checked a close family member's birth index... same scenario of unmarried parents but listed only under father's name. I believe all the father had to do then was to give permission if the parents were not married. I was wondering if there was a programme or web site similar to 192 where you can punch in say the maiden name and come up with the goods... that would be luxury. Cheers Gerry |

thinking out loud..... were they married then, the parents? if not , usually if reg in the fathers name, its reg in both names , isn't it? although you have already not found it under the mothers name, so that makes no sense. so, if it was only reg under his, suggests they were married, what about looking for the marriage first? |

I'm helping a friend find a birth entry and we are having difficulty finding it with the information she has been given. We have a date of birth and the name of the mother. However, there is no entry for that name... have searched 4 years back and 3 forward. I'm wondering if the birth has been registered under the father's name... so now we are trawling that quarter for 1964 from A-Z and it's a huge job. 40 pages for A, 127 for B, 98 pages for C and so on. Can anyone tell me if there is an easier way other than what we are doing?. Does anyone one know of a program that we can enter the maiden name ... or am I dreaming!! just thought I'd ask.
