To avoid hot matches with John smith...I substituted the surname with the words 'commonest name'.......and got a personal mail from some one with a whole host of names and dates, totally unrelated ,in a desperate attempt for me to shed some light-the message was entitled John commonest name so must have been prompted from hot matches??.... |

If you do a name search on here for the surname, ''Name'' you get some unusual forenames, such as: Guessed Forget Her Guestimate Made Up Awaiting Cannot remember and the attractive, Dunno Merry |

One thing I do to avoid too many hot matches with 'Unknown' as a surname is to make the surname 'Wife of Joe Bloggs'. It also helps me when I am looking at my own names so I know who Ann, Ann, Ann etc actually are on my tree until I track down their maiden names. Carole |

I tend to use (mother), (father), (wife) and (husband) for unknown surnames. Doesn't throw up any hotmatches, whatsoever! I'm thinking of changing my name to Living Unknown... I need to be more unpopular... Gordon |

I came across a GR member whose first name is listed as 'your first name' when searching for matches this morning! Kate. |

I'd believe anything of GR these days! my lastest hot matches ( on my no paying membership where i build my tree) had a whole load of nearly -spelled--the -surname-right matches - Oh and someone sent me a message that ''My GGrandfather was called william BOW- do we have a match?'' No, dont think so! Jess x |
