Unfortunately my Dad died a couple of years ago and I don't think he knew anyway! I lost my Nan many years ago. It's a lesson to us all to ask questions before it's too late. The sad thing is that we aren't interested in our roots until those who could have answered all these questions have long gone...... Thanks for the web-site. Shall have a look. Allie x

hiya, doesnt your dad know why he has it as well as his mum?? it could be a really good family friend, who was remembered in this way, or an employer, but it could be anything really, just clutching at straws really, godparents?? the list is endless HTH Julie

Hello OC Unfortunately I can only find the name in these two generations - if there were more it might be a bit easier! Allie x

Allie It was the custom in one branch of my family to call the first son Henshaw and give all the boys Henshaw as a second name. I traced this back (eventually) to 1583..... OC

........My Dad and my Grandmother (his Mum) both had the name STIMPSON as one of their Christain names. I've searched high and low on Ancestry to find a link with a Stimpson family, but no luck so far. Anyone have any ideas what I can look up next? Details of them are ANNIE CONSTANCE STIMPSON WEEDON b. 1902 Croydon (my grandmother) her father HERBERT WEEDON b.1873 Peckham mother ANNIE DAKIN b. 1874 Hammersmith my father CECIL HERBERT ELLIS STIMPSON GILBERT b. 1926 Croydon I know this is a long shot but I also know there are some clever people out there!!!!!
