Hi Pipa, Thanks again for your reply. That's my problem, I don't know anything, that is, untill I read your reply which has once again proved usefull. I have a birth certificate for a Mr X born in Malta in 1903. It has his mother and fathers full name and place of birth and their fathers names. It also has the names of 2 witnesses, their ages and their place of birth. Strange on a birth certificate. I'd like to trace the family of Mr X further back but that's all the details I have to go on. Thanks Paul

Have you got any of their civil reg details. Civil Reg started in 1863 before that you have to contact the individual parish - sorry if you already know.

I don't know thr proper answer but... if you go on familysearch.org there is a Maltese census on there. Was the person you are looking for in the Army or Navy should be on the British census.

Hi All, With Malta under British Rule between 1814 - 1964, was the census carried out every 10 years as in the UK. If so does anyone know if the records are available. Bye Paul
