Hi, You can remove your notes from your tree by stripping them out of your gedcom using a program named 'Res Privata'. It can be downloaded from http://www(.)users(.)bigpond(.)com/naibor/rpriv(.)html I open up Res Privata and then filter the gedcom with the options checked to 'Remove notes', 'Remove picture, sound and text file links', and “Remove Source Citations” - these options can be found under the 'other' tab once you open up Res Privata program. I also check the “Birth and Death details if born since 1600” and “Day, Month and related details” under the “Birth/Death” Tab which will convert your dates to year only. The reason I remove the source citations and convert dates to year only is so that there is enough information left for someone to establish a potential connection to my tree. If it looks as if there is a connection I give access to my tree so that it can be viewed, and once I am sure that there is a true connection then I offer complete information including dates and sources. You can also use the program to privatise your gedcom in other ways by changing names to living, etc - this requires clicking on a few more checkboxes (there is a help button in the software). I always change/remove living relatives names manually because it gives me more flexibility – i.e. I can leave my name on the tree, and those of a few other people who have requested that I leave them on it too. I only know what’s written about the program in the url above and the help file, but I have never had any problems with it. I use it before exporting my tree onto this site and it always removes the notes, etc for me. Just make sure that you filter a copy of your gedcom, not the original. Hope this helps. Steven. |

To privatise living people go to 'My Account Details' and in there is a box to tick. It does work cos I asked someone to check mine. Yes it also puts in your notes and I had to edit out some of mine that were for my eyes only. Jennifer |

If you go to your FTM - before you do your ged file, click on file and on the list there should be something that says privatise file. |

I know there have been endless discussions here about how to treat living people. My personal experience is that at least half of my GR contacts (with genuine fairly close rellies) have been via a living person match. I never ever release my tree to others without a severe interrogation to establish that they are who they say they are, but I have been able to discover loads of infomation about my grandparents' rellies through these contacts. On the other hand, I never cease to be amazed by contacts who say 'I've got Sid Smith in my tree, have a look.' And the name they've linked to is Jim Smith. J |

If I can do it Ann, then you can. I just wasnt too happy to find my notes included. Ive asked FTM about it but apparently no way of excluding them. Dont forget to privatise all living persons before you make the gedcom. Its easy again, just click on the tab at the top and it will say something like 'temporary privatise'. |

Hi Ann, I presume you mean export your tree onto here? If so yes you can. You need to export (file, export,) Select entire file or individuals you wish to export. Select Gedcom (NOT FTM for Dos), name the file, select save, when next box comes up make sure destination is PAF, Gedcom is version 5.5, Character set is ANSI then click OK. This will save it onto your computer. To import into GR, go to home page, select import tree from L/H side and follow instructions there. Hope this helps Keith |

Yes you can - its easy, just follow the link on the left hand margin here re importing/exporting trees. One word of caution though - the whole caboodle goes over including all your personal notes. Go to FTM, click on file and save as a gedcom with a name - something like GRfile Then follow instructions re uploading to GR by clicking on the link on the left. |
