Morning, Gary. What time period are we talking about here? The older the parish records are, the less information tends to be recorded. Before around the late 1700's it was quite usual for only the father's name to be given (as obviously he did all the work and the mother only made a small contribution!!). |

Parish baptism registers, which are generally in county records offices, may or may not have the mother's maiden name. www.familysearch.org has lots of baptism records, though they may not cover your area or time period. www.familyhistoryonline.net has some, but its payperview, so check the county list of databases to see if they cover what you want before you buy. nell |

I'm trying to find a mothers name and was hoping church records for christenings might be a way forward? whats the best way to do this? do I go to the suspected church? |
